The musicians of Austral Harmony present intimate performances of chamber music featuring innovatively designed programmes which promote less familiar repertoire, supported by thorough musicological research.
Jane performs principal oboe with the Oxford Bach Soloists, Instruments of Time and Truth, and Australian Romantic and Classical Orchestra, and runs the Frideswide Ensemble of Oxford. She has worked with the Oslo Barokkorkester, English Baroque Soloists, Academy of Ancient Music, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, The Sixteen, The English Concert, Salut! Baroque, Sydney Consort and Pinchgut Opera. Jane has also worked with period instrument orchestras including Concerto Kőln, Oslo Barokkorkester, the Academy of Ancient Music, English Baroque Soloists, and Orchestra of the Antipodes. She has appeared at the Innsbruck Early Music Festival, New England Bach Festival, Organs of the Ballarat Goldfields Festival, Adelaide Festival Fringe and Canberra International Music Festival.
While studying at the Univerisity of Adelaide, Jane performed with the State Opera of South Australia, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and Adelaide Chamber Orchestra. After receiving a BA (Modern Languages) and BMus (Honours Performance), she studied baroque oboe in the UK and was awarded a scholarship from the David Reichenberg Trust.
Jane’s main musical focus is as artistic director of Austral Harmony which tours concerts and educational programmes throughout Australia. She has worked as external specialist examiner for the Royal College of Music in London and Birmingham Conservatoire, as administrator for Orpheus Music in Armidale, and is a regular presenter, recitalist and adjudicator for the Australasian Double Reed Society. Jane is the official programme-note writer for the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, and has articles published in music magazines including The Baroque Times and The Hautboy Herald.
Anna Sandström has sung with Australian groups including The Song Company, Sydney Philharmonia, Cantillation, Christ Church Cathedral Choir Newcastle, Australian Chamber Choir, and as a regular featured artist with Australian Baroque Brass.
Overseas, Anna was a member of the Choir of Royal Hospital Chelsea, and performed in the Early Music Festival Brugge, and in major venues including Cadogan Hall and Westminster Abbey. Anna is head of probationer choristers at St Mary’s Cathedral Sydney. She has toured with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and The Presets, and regularly tours Australia with Camerata Antica, a group she founded with her husband, cornettist, Matthew Manchester.
Austral Harmony has performed at Melba Hall, Trinity College Melbourne, the New England Bach Festival, St James’ Church Sydney, the Wesley Music Centre in Canberra, and for Australasian Double Reed Society National Conferences, the Early Music Society Queensland, Australian Bach Society, and Adelaide Baroque.
